About Us

The Montevideo Maru Foundation is currently in the process of being setup and as such we do not accept monetary donations.

This website has been created by a group of dedicated individuals with a mission to ensure those brave men who lived and served on New Britain, New Ireland and the Surrounding Islands of the Mandated Territory of New Guinea will never be forgotten.

The purpose of this website is to create a community for relatives of those lost on the Montevideo Maru. We hope this website removes some of the geographical restrictions some people face in searching for and sharing information about the Montevideo Maru and the conflict in New Ireland and New Britain during WWII.

The other purpose of this website is to increase public awareness of Australia’s Greatest Maritime Disaster.
