Born: 7 October 1903 Laceys Creek, Queensland, Australia.
Died: 1st July, 1942 – Montevideo Maru. Age 37.
Occupation – 1942: NGVR
Occupation – Pre-War: Director of New Guinea Education on New Britain

Adolf “Ardie” Schmidt’s Story

Parents Christina Johanna Nee Wetzel & Ferdinand Schmidt.

Attended Laceys School 1909 and then Dayboro School High School, Brisbane Grammar School, Teachers College.

A member of the Brisbane Athletic Club.

Dad was a relieving Teacher to several Schools up the north Coast of Queensland. He went back and was teaching at his old school at Dayboro before going to Rabaul to Malaguna Technical School, Malaguna, Rabaul, New Britain in The Mandated Territory of New Guinea.

In 1927 he was appointed Headmaster of Malaguna Technical School and Director of New Guinea Education on New Britain. He trained the New Guineans as Teachers to go back to the Villages and open up Schools.
