Reginald Parkin’s Story
After many years of not knowing what happened to our family member Reginald George Parkin, knowing now that he went down with the Montevideo Maru has given some closure to the family especially my Mother. She was the last to see her Uncle when he left for war.
Reginald was the 7th child of William and Betsie Parkin. His other brother and sisters were from oldest: Bill, Max, Evie, Annie, Bessie ( my grandmother) Harold and Reg. All deceased. He lived in St Marys in NSW and was educated there as well.
His interests were riding bikes and was also involved with building them. He used to build ramps and do tricks with the bike to which he was very skilled. He had a sense of humour but still a little reserved. His brother Harold and he built a temporary boxing ring in the front yard of their home and spared together. This was a local attraction to which people would stop and watch them having some fun.
I would love my great Uncle’s face be placed on this website as a gesture from his family that we remember him and are proud of him, and all of the other soldiers who lost their lives in this tragic way.
