Welcome to the brand new Montevideo Maru Foundation website!
This website has been created to allow relatives and friends to share their stories, pictures and thoughts of their loved ones who were involved in the conflict in the Mandated Territory of New Guinea in World War II.
The old discussion boards have been switched off (but you can still read the old messages) and replaced with a new message board which is connected with the main website.
Please sign up for an account (over in the right hand column) and sign up for the Montevideo Maru Foundation newsletter. It’s all free and we will never distribute your personal information to any third parties.
We’ll outline some of the great new features of the website in the near future. In the meantime, feel free to browse around and if you encounter any issues or would like to offer some suggestions, please contact us via the links above.
Please note that the Montevideo Maru Foundation is not yet incorporated and as such we will not accept donations.

I will volunteer to guide personnel for the search of Montevideo
Maru in Cape Luzon.
I would love to get to the bottom of this mystery, and be able to lay my father too rest in my mind.
Hi Montevideo Maru Foundation,
My father Malcolm Thompson 91 residing in Christchurch New Zealand WW2 Veteran 1st Independent Company and a mate of Lex Frazer. I am Malcolm Thompson’s son Ross Thompson and I reside full time in the Philippines and own two Scuba Diving centres here.
I would love to see the Montevideo Maru located and to be able to offer closure for the relatives of those brave men who perished on the Montevideo Maru.
How can I help?
Best regards,
Ross “Roscoe” Thompson
